Introduction to the Pharmacy Training Program
EMPOWER YOUR DREAMS, OPEN UP YOUR FUTURE WITH THE PHARMACY TRAINING PROGRAM AT TAY DO UNIVERSITY
Overview of the Pharmacy Sector in 2023
According to statistics from the Drug Administration of Vietnam, the pharmaceutical sector will continue to grow over the next 5 years and is projected to reach $16.1 billion by 2026, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of up to 11% in Vietnamese Dong. At the recent forum "Improving Competitiveness in the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Sector," Ms. Nguyen Dieu Ha, General Secretary and Chief of Office of the Vietnam Pharmaceutical Companies Association (VNPCA), stated that as of 2022, Vietnam had 51 foreign-invested pharmaceutical enterprises, 228 enterprises meeting WHO-GMP standards (World Health Organization - Good Manufacturing Practices), and 12 enterprises achieving high-standard GMP certifications such as EU, PIC/S, JAPAN, and TCA. This figure shows that Vietnam's pharmaceutical industry has indeed made significant strides, given that only 2 enterprises achieved GMP standards in 2017. Companies have invested more heavily to meet good manufacturing practice standards, and the distribution system is relatively well-developed, particularly with the widespread network of pharmacies across the country.
Alongside the impressive growth of the pharmaceutical industry, Vietnam's population is entering an "aging" phase, with the population over 60 years old accounting for 11.9% in 2019 and expected to rise to over 25% by 2050. Furthermore, an alarming trend of diseases hitting younger populations—driven by an industrial lifestyle, physical inactivity, unscientific diets, and alcohol or tobacco addiction—is altering the country's disease patterns. Non-communicable diseases now account for 73% of total deaths. All of these factors are driving up the general demand for healthcare and specifically the demand for human resources trained from the Pharmacy Training Program.
